I Remember

I remember exactly where I was 10 years ago today, on September 11th, when reports broke of the first crash into the World Trade Center.  I was a sophomore at Indiana University, and had just parked my car to head to class.  The story unfolding was shocking and confusing and scary.  But I didn't really understand the gravity of the situation until I got home and saw the news on tv.  The news that I know you all were watching too.

Ten years later as I remember these events and quietly watch 9/11 footage, I realize that with age my perspective has changed.  I was only 19 when the tragedy happened.  No question I was affected by what I saw and learned.  But in a way, it all seemed a little unreal to me.  Now I look at it through new eyes as a wife... mother... adult....  Hard to explain, but it's eerily different for me now.

Today I would like to remember that day, honor those that were affected in ways that I'll thankfully never fully understand, and give thanks to our firefighters, police officers, and first responders.  What an amazing country I live in.
